Lemon and mint lemonade

Homemade lemon and mint lemonade is mixed right in the glasses with sparkling water and ice. The fresh juice gives it a tart edge, while peach slices and sugar sweeten it without masking the citrus flavor. I prefer it without colored syrups, with peach in the glass. Preparation: 10 minutes. Cooking: 0 minutes. Total time: 10 minutes. Servings: 4. Approximately 45 kcal and 1 g protein per serving.
Ingredients
- 4 lemons for juice
- 25 g sugar or 60 ml simple syrup
- 1 lemon for slicing
- 1 lime for slicing
- 1 peach (150 g)
- 8 g mint leaves
- 400 g ice cubes
- 800 ml sparkling water
- 30 ml mint or strawberry or sour cherry syrup (optional)
Preparation
1. Squeeze the 4 lemons and mix the juice with the sugar or simple syrup. Stir until the sugar dissolves. 2. Cut the lemon, lime and peach into thin slices. Divide the slices and mint leaves among 4 glasses. 3. Add the ice cubes and flavored syrup, if using. Pour the sparkling water into the glasses; the bubbles rise to the surface right away.
Notes
If making it ahead, the sweetened juice can be kept chilled; add the sparkling water just before serving so it keeps its bubbles. Lemons that feel heavy for their size usually have more juice, and very large ones can make the drink more tart. If the juice is too tart, dissolve a little more sugar in it before adding the sparkling water. Rub the mint gently between your palms without crushing it, since badly crushed leaves can leave a grassy taste. Choose a ripe but still firm peach so the slices don't fall apart in the glass. When making more servings, increase all the quantities in the same proportion. Serve it with sandwiches or a salty snack; it doesn't need another drink alongside. For a fruity flavor, replace the mint syrup with the same amount of strawberry or sour cherry syrup, 30 ml.
Frequently asked questions
Why can it turn bitter?
Citrus peel can make the drink bitter if the slices sit in the liquid for a long time. Remove them after 30 minutes if you're keeping the drink in a pitcher.
Can I replace the lemon juice with lime juice?
Yes. For the juice of one lemon, use the juice of 2 small limes; the flavor will be more intense.
Can I make it with still water?
Yes. Chill the still water for at least 2 hours before pouring it in, so the drink stays cold without adding more ice.
