To prepare this culinary delight, we start by selecting the best potatoes, both regular and sweet. The regular potatoes, preferably of the russet or Idaho type, are carefully peeled and sliced into thin pieces, about 3-4 mm thick. The sweet potatoes, with a fine texture and a sweet aroma, are peeled in the same way and sliced to the same thickness. These layers of potatoes will alternate in a baking dish, which has been previously greased with a little butter to prevent sticking. Thus, we will start with a layer of regular potatoes, followed by a layer of sweet potatoes, continuing to alternate these layers until the dish is full.

While we are dealing with the potatoes, it is time to prepare the flavorful sauce. We heat a pot over medium heat and add the cream, broth, salt, pepper, thyme, rosemary, and a pinch of nutmeg. These ingredients combine perfectly, and the aroma that will be released will transform the entire dish. We let the mixture come to a boil, stirring occasionally, until it reaches the boiling point. Once the sauce has reached this moment, we remove it from the heat and carefully pour it over the layer of potatoes in the baking dish, making sure that each slice is well covered.

After pouring the sauce, we add a few pieces of butter on top, which will melt and provide a rich flavor. We also add some marshmallows, which will help create a sweet and delicious crust at the end. We cover the dish with aluminum foil to retain moisture and help the sauce cook evenly. We place the dish in the preheated oven at 175°C (350°F) and let it bake for about 30 minutes.

After this interval, we remove the aluminum foil and leave the dish in the oven for another 20 minutes, allowing the sauce to reduce by half and intensify the flavors. Finally, we sprinkle chopped nuts and the remaining marshmallows on top, letting them melt and brown slightly in the last 5-10 minutes of baking. This dish will become a perfect combination of textures and flavors, with creamy potatoes and a sweet, crunchy crust. Once it’s ready, take it out of the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. This recipe will surely be a hit at any table!

Ingredients: 3 sweet potatoes, 8 regular potatoes, a few tablespoons of butter, 300 ml liquid cream, 300 ml soup broth, 2-3 sprigs of dried thyme, 1 sprig of rosemary, a pinch of nutmeg, 150 g chopped walnuts, but not too finely, two handfuls of marshmallows.
