Desert - Victoria Cake by Gina B. - Recipia
I present to you a delicious recipe, with which I won a contest organized by GoodFood. This creation is not only tasty but also playful, as I added a cheerful smile to the face of the cake. To create this smiling face, I used two grapes for eyes, half a strawberry for a nose, and three halves of strawberries for a mouth. I want to share with you every step of this process so that you can also create this wonderful cake.

Before I started preparing the ingredients, I made sure to wash my hands and tie my hair back with a headband, so I would be ready to start cooking. The first step was to gather all the necessary ingredients: butter, sugar, eggs, flour, baking powder, milk, and strawberry jam.

To start the preparation, I asked my godmother to preheat the oven to 180°C (or gas 4). While she was taking care of the oven, I greased two cake pans with butter, making sure they were well covered so that the cake wouldn't stick.

I began to beat the butter and sugar with a mixer until I obtained a fluffy and smooth cream. Then, I gradually added the eggs, mixing well after each one to perfectly incorporate the ingredients. Step by step, I added the flour and baking powder, mixing gently to avoid lumps. The last step was to add enough milk so that the mixture became fluid but consistent, flowing quickly off the spoon.

I tasted the mixture, ensuring it had a balanced and sweet flavor. After pouring the batter into the two pans, my godmother placed the layers in the oven for about 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean.

After baking, my godmother gently cut the edges to achieve an even appearance. I started to assemble the cake: I spread the first layer with a delicious buttercream and added a layer of strawberry jam for extra flavor. Then, I placed the second layer on top and pressed gently so that the buttercream oozed out a little.

At this point, I added shredded coconut around the edge of the cake, creating an attractive look and a crunchy texture. Using a teaspoon, I sprinkled candies around the butter edge, transforming the cake into a true work of art. It is important to have a tray underneath to avoid mess.

For a finishing touch, I sprinkled powdered sugar on the cake, according to preference. I wish you a good appetite and hope you enjoy every bite of this smiling cake, which not only looks good but also tastes amazing!
