Nightingale's Nest
To prepare these delicious nests made of pastry sheets, start by thawing the package of pastry sheets in the refrigerator. This step is essential to avoid tearing the sheets when handling them. Once the sheets are completely thawed, take one sheet and brush it with oil over the entire surface, leaving a strip of about 2 cm unbrushed on one side. This strip will be crucial for maintaining the shape of the roll.
Fold the sheet in half so that the brushed side overlaps the unbrushed side. Then, take a stick that is longer than the width of the sheet and about 1 cm in diameter, and roll the sheet around it until you reach the unbrushed portion. This process will create a roll that will become the base for your delicious nests. Once you have the roll, gently pull it towards the center to form a smaller roll, but with a crinkled texture.
Now, to achieve the desired shape, arch the roll to create a circle, with the unbrushed side on the inside. This part will support the filling and give a nice appearance to your nest. Place the formed nests on a baking tray that you have previously prepared with baking paper. Arrange the nests tightly next to each other so that they retain their shape during baking.
Preheat the oven to a moderate temperature and bake the nests for about 30 minutes or until they turn a beautiful golden color. While the nests are baking, you can prepare a delicious syrup from water and sugar. Put the mixture on the heat and add cinnamon, rum essence, and vanilla for extra flavor. This syrup will add a sweet and fragrant note to your nests.
After boiling the syrup, take the walnut kernel and crush it finely. Once the nests are baked and have cooled slightly, fill the center of each with crushed walnuts. Generously drizzle with the hot sugar syrup so that they soak well. Allow the nests to cool completely so that the syrup penetrates well into each layer of pastry. These pastry nests will not only be a delicacy but also a true delight for your loved ones!
