Spring Pie
To prepare a delicious apple pie with dough flowers, we start by gathering all the necessary ingredients and ensuring that we have the utensils ready. In a large bowl, we put fresh eggs, granulated sugar, sunflower oil, water, salt, and sour cream. We use a mixer to combine all the ingredients until we obtain a homogeneous and fluffy mixture. This step is essential because the eggs will add volume, and the sour cream will contribute to a rich taste.
After mixing the wet ingredients well, we move on to the flour. We sift the flour to ensure there are no lumps, then add the baking powder and dry yeast. We start with 700 g of flour, mixing slowly, and if the dough is too soft, we add another 100 g of flour. We knead the dough for a few minutes until it becomes elastic and smooth. Now, we let it rest for 10-15 minutes while we prepare the baking tray.
We prepare the tray by lining it with baking paper, ensuring it is well secured and will not slip during baking. After the dough has had enough time to relax, we roll it out on a lightly floured surface, obtaining a sheet about 1/2 inch thick. Using a flower-shaped cutter, we cut out 35 dough flowers.
The remaining dough, which we carefully roll out, should be the size of the tray, maybe even a little larger, so we can raise the edges. We place the dough in the tray, being careful to lightly prick it with a fork to prevent air bubbles from forming.
Now we take care of the apples. If we used autumn apples, we need to peel them, cut them into small cubes, and evenly distribute them over the dough in the tray. On top of the apples, we carefully place the dough flowers we cut out earlier.
We preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and place a pot of water underneath to create steam, which will help bake the pie evenly. We bake the pie for 35-40 minutes until it becomes golden and fluffy. Once it is ready, we can take it out of the oven. If we can't wait, we can slice it immediately, but its taste will be just as delicious even after it has cooled. This pie is perfect for any occasion, being a savory and comforting dessert.
