Couscous - Salad
To prepare a delicious couscous salad, we start by ensuring that we have all the ingredients at hand and that we are ready to enjoy a fresh and flavorful dish. The first step is to boil water in a pot, adding a pinch of salt and a little oil to enhance the taste. When the water starts to boil, we carefully pour it over the couscous placed in a bowl. It is important to mix well to ensure that each grain of couscous is evenly soaked. After mixing, we let the couscous cool to room temperature.
In the meantime, we turn our attention to the vegetables. We wash a tomato well, which we will slice thinly, while the other tomato will be diced. The cucumber will be cut in half: one part into slices and the other into cubes, to add texture to the salad. The bell pepper will be cut into both thin slices and cubes, to provide a crunchy and colorful note. Mozzarella or the cheese of your choice, whether it’s telemea or feta, should be cut into small cubes, and fresh herbs like parsley or mint will be finely chopped to add vibrant flavor.
The hard-boiled eggs will be carefully peeled and sliced. At this point, it is important to add a little salt over all the ingredients to enhance their flavor, but be careful not to overdo it, as we can adjust the salt at the end of the preparation. Once all the ingredients are ready, we mix the chopped vegetables with the couscous and taste the mixture. If necessary, we can add more salt, oil, or even a few drops of lemon juice for a pleasant acidity.
Once we have a tasty mixture, we pour the couscous salad onto a platter and garnish it with the remaining sliced ingredients. It is recommended to let the salad sit in the refrigerator or in a cool place for 5-10 minutes before serving. This resting time allows the flavors to 'get to know each other' and intensify.
For those who want to customize the recipe, there are numerous additional options. You can add tuna, steamed or smoked fish, diced chicken breast, leftover sliced steak, ham, or even grilled vegetables such as zucchini, eggplant, artichokes, or bell peppers. This couscous salad is not only versatile but also full of freshness and flavor, perfect for any occasion!
Ingredients: Pre-cooked couscous prepared according to the instructions on the box, in my case the same amount of couscous as water or broth. 200g pre-cooked couscous, 200ml water, 1-2 tablespoons of oil, salt to taste, 2 tomatoes, 1 cucumber, 1/4 red onion, 3 hard-boiled eggs, 1/2 bell pepper (red, green, yellow), 2 mozzarella cheese balls of 100g each or another type of cheese in cubes, a small bunch of fresh parsley, lemon juice to taste (optional), basil or mint also goes well.
