The dough is the perfect base for a delicious pastry recipe, and this recipe will turn any meal into a feast of flavors. We start by preparing the dough. If you have a bread machine, all you need to do is add all the ingredients to its bowl and select the dough program. It's simple and efficient! However, if you don't have such a machine, don't worry. The manual process can be just as enjoyable. Start by softening the yeast with a little sugar, then dilute it with a few tablespoons of warm milk, letting the mixture sit for 10 minutes to activate the yeast.

Later, in a large bowl, sift the flour and add the eggs. After the yeast has risen, pour it over the flour. Then, add the remaining warm milk, in which you have dissolved the sugar and honey. Finally, add the melted and cooled butter. Mix the ingredients until you obtain a homogeneous dough. Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let the dough rise for about 40-50 minutes, or until it doubles in volume.

Once the dough has risen, sprinkle a little flour on the work surface and roll out a sheet of dough. Cut the dough into suitable squares, adding a tablespoon of the prepared filling in the center of each portion. Bring the corners of the dough towards the center, brushing the edges with a little water to stick well. Place the products on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, scoring them here and there to allow steam to escape during baking. Let them rise again in a warm place for another 40 minutes.

While the dough is rising, it's time to prepare the filling. Peel the apples, core them, and cut them into small cubes. To prevent oxidation, immediately sprinkle them with lemon juice. Place the apple cubes in a pot over heat, adding cinnamon and sugar, the amount depending on the sweetness of the apples and personal preferences. Stir constantly until the apples release their juice. If the apples are not very juicy, add a little water and continue to cook until they become soft but still firm. Finally, incorporate the starch and let it cook for another minute, stirring continuously. Allow the filling to cool.

To add a finishing touch, prepare a syrup from sugar and water, boiled until it thickens. Once the syrup is ready, take it off the heat and add a few drops of rum essence, keeping it warm. After the pastries are baked and beautifully browned, take them out of the oven and generously brush them with the warm syrup, repeating the operation 2-3 times to enrich their flavor. Thus, you will obtain an irresistible delicacy, perfect to be enjoyed with loved ones!
