Fish with Cheese Sauce
To prepare this culinary delight, we will start by organizing the necessary ingredients and utensils. Make sure you have 300 grams of freshly grated cheese, 2 tablespoons of quality mustard, 200 grams of sour cream, salt, pepper, 2 fillets of fish (preferably salmon or trout), 2-3 ripe and aromatic tomatoes, a few fresh basil leaves, and the juice of one lemon.
In a sufficiently large bowl, add the grated cheese, mustard, and sour cream. Mix the ingredients well with a spatula or a whisk until the mixture becomes homogeneous. Here, it is important to adjust the taste with salt and pepper, considering that the fish will also add flavor. This mixture will be the creamy base that will give a delicious taste to our dish.
Prepare a baking dish, which you will lightly grease with a splash of oil to prevent sticking. Pour half of the cheese sauce into the bottom of the dish, ensuring it is evenly distributed. Then, place the first fish fillet over the sauce, seasoning it with salt and pepper to taste. Slice the tomatoes into thin rounds and arrange them evenly over the fillet, adding a few fresh basil leaves on top for extra flavor.
After that, place the second fish fillet over the tomatoes, and pour the remaining cheese sauce on top, covering the fish well. To add a fresh note, drizzle everything with lemon juice, which will enhance the flavors and provide a pleasant acidity to the dish.
Now, preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Cover the dish with aluminum foil to retain moisture and allow the fish to cook evenly. Place the dish in the oven and let it bake for 15 minutes. After this interval, remove the aluminum foil and let the dish continue to bake for another 10 minutes, so that the cheese on top becomes golden and appetizing.
When the baking time is over, take the dish out of the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving. This dish is perfect to be enjoyed alongside a side of steamed vegetables or creamy mashed potatoes, providing you with a meal that is not only delicious but also full of flavors that will delight any gourmet.
