Breakfast with Yogurt and Fruits Boiled in Tea
The fruits are washed carefully, ensuring that we remove any traces of impurities. Then, we cut them into small pieces, taking care to uniform the sizes to ensure even cooking. If you are using dried apricots, figs, or dates, it is recommended to chop them so that they integrate better into the recipe. Personally, I chose a mix of 4 types of dried grapes, which gave a rich and varied taste without needing to chop them.
In a pot, we add a cup of water and bring it to a boil. When the water starts to boil, we take it off the heat and add a tea bag, letting it infuse for 5 minutes. After this interval, we remove the tea bag and discard it. We bring the pot back onto the heat, and when the water starts to boil again, we add the honey, stirring to dissolve it completely. Next, we add the dried fruits, which will add natural sweetness and an intense flavor to our dish.
We let the mixture simmer on low heat for about 20 minutes. During this time, the water will decrease significantly, and the fruits will absorb the flavors and become juicier. In the end, there will be a liquid that, after cooling, will thicken, providing a pleasant consistency. It is important to let this mixture cool to room temperature, then refrigerate it for a night or at least 4 hours, so that the syrup thickens.
To add extra texture and flavor to the dish, we toast the sesame seeds in a pan, being careful to stir them constantly to prevent burning, as they can become bitter. When they turn golden and fragrant, we put them in a small bowl, thus preparing for the assembly of the breakfast.
In the morning, it is time to enjoy this delicious dish. For one serving, we start by putting 4-5 tablespoons of Greek yogurt or homemade yogurt in a glass or bowl, which will provide a creamy and nourishing base. We then generously add a few tablespoons of the dried fruit compote, and for a touch of freshness, we can sprinkle some pomegranate seeds on top, which not only add color but also a slightly tangy taste. Finally, we sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds, which will provide a crunchy note and an extra boost of nutrients. This dish can be enjoyed alongside a slice of toasted bread or even on its own, making it a perfect choice for a healthy and energizing breakfast.
