Dessert - Original Tiramisu Recipe by Lacramioara F. - Recipia
I usually prepare this tiramisu when I have unexpected guests or when I want a quick dessert that looks good on the table. It doesn't contain raw eggs and is made from readily available ingredients. Plus, you don't need much experience, just follow the steps. The last time I made it in a glass dish so the layers would look nice.

Quick Info

Total Time: about 30 minutes (plus at least 2 hours in the fridge)
Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Baking Time: no baking
Servings: 8-10
Difficulty: easy
Recipe Type: no-bake dessert, suitable for parties or when you need something quick

Ingredients

1 package of Savoiardi biscuits
1 packet of vanilla cream Dr. Oetker
1 packet of chocolate cream Dr. Oetker
500 ml milk
6 tablespoons powdered sugar
100 g whisky
coffee (enough to soak the biscuits; I usually use a large mug)
a little whipped cream for decoration
cooking chocolate, for grating on top

Preparation Steps

1. Brew the coffee normally, enough to fill a large mug. Let it cool a bit, then add the whisky. Mix and set aside.

2. In a large bowl, put 250 ml of milk and 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar. Add the packet of vanilla cream and mix with a mixer for about 2-3 minutes until it thickens.

3. In another bowl, repeat with the chocolate cream: 250 ml of milk, the remaining powdered sugar, and the packet of cream. Mix again with the mixer until you get a firm cream.

4. Take a dish (preferably glass or ceramic). Quickly dip the biscuits in the coffee with whisky, one by one. Don't soak them too long, so they don't break. Place a layer of biscuits at the bottom of the dish.

5. On top of the first layer of biscuits, add the vanilla cream. Level with a spatula.

6. Place another layer of coffee-soaked biscuits.

7. Pour the chocolate cream on top and spread it evenly.

8. Cover the dish with cling film and refrigerate for at least two hours.

9. When serving, garnish with a little whipped cream and grate cooking chocolate on top. If I want it to look even better, I use a knife to grate the chocolate more coarsely.

Why I Make This Recipe Often

This recipe really helps you out when you don't have time to bake. Each layer comes out even, and you don't need raw eggs. It's quite adaptable, and the ingredients hold up well in the fridge. Plus, you can make large portions without hassle.

Tips and Variations

Tips

- The biscuits should only be briefly touched in the coffee, otherwise they get too soggy.
- Use strong coffee to enhance the flavor.
- Level each layer of cream well to keep it looking neat.

Substitutions

- You can use another cream packet if you don't have Dr. Oetker, but the texture may be slightly different.
- If you don't want alcohol, you can omit the whisky and just use coffee.
- Cooking chocolate can be replaced with any dark chocolate for grating on top.

Variations

- You can reverse the order of the creams or use just one layer if you prefer a simpler look.
- If you have kids at the table, make the coffee weaker or choose decaffeinated coffee without whisky.
- Whipped cream for decoration is not mandatory, but it adds a lighter appearance.

Serving Ideas

- Tiramisu cuts best after a few hours in the fridge when the layers are firm.
- It can be served in individual glasses if you want to make smaller portions.
- For decoration, sprinkle a little cocoa powder over the chocolate layer before serving.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I use instant coffee?
Yes, if you don't have an espresso machine or filter, instant coffee works. I recommend making it more concentrated.

2. What should I do if the cream doesn't thicken?
Usually, you need to follow the exact amount of milk on the package and beat well with a mixer. If it still doesn't set, let it sit in the fridge for a few more minutes before assembling.

3. Can it be made without alcohol?
Yes, you can completely omit the whisky. Plain coffee helps with taste and consistency.

4. Can I prepare the dessert a day in advance?
Yes, it actually sets better in the fridge overnight.

5. How sweet is the recipe?
It's balanced. If you want it sweeter, you can slightly increase the sugar, but don't overdo it since both the biscuits and creams already contain sugar.

Nutritional Values

Approximately, one serving (out of 10) has about 270-320 kcal, with 5-7 g of protein, 35-40 g of carbohydrates, and 10-13 g of fat, depending on the brands used and the exact amount of whipped cream and chocolate for decoration. The values are indicative, as not all information about the content of the cream packets is the same.

Storage and Reheating

Tiramisu can be stored in the fridge, covered, for up to 2 days. I do not recommend reheating. If it sits too long, the biscuits become very soft. It's best to finish it quickly or make smaller portions.
