Ness with milk
I am one of those who don't feel the need for daily coffee, but sometimes, very rarely, I crave a ness with milk. It doesn't attract me at all with water, but the milk version has a different texture and taste. I've heard it's a favorite drink for kids or those who don't drink coffee, but I don't see why it wouldn't be suitable for adults, at least once in a while.
Quick Info
Total time: 5 minutes
Preparation time: 3-5 minutes
Cooking time: not required
Servings: 1 cup
Difficulty: easy
Recipe type: hot, quick drink
Ingredients
2 teaspoons instant ness
3 teaspoons sugar
1 cup milk (heated)
a little cold water (a few drops, just enough to dissolve the ness and sugar)
Preparation method
1. Put the 2 teaspoons of instant ness in a cup.
2. Add the 3 teaspoons of sugar over the ness.
3. Pour a very small amount of cold water (about a teaspoon or enough to cover the ness and sugar).
4. Mix the ness and sugar with the water vigorously with a teaspoon until you get a thick and frothy cream. Quick movements are essential for texture.
5. Heat a cup of milk. It should not boil, just be well heated.
6. Add the warm milk over the ness cream, little by little, stirring continuously until fully homogenized. The cream will gradually dissolve and color the milk evenly.
7. Fill the cup with the remaining warm milk.
8. Sprinkle a little instant ness on top if you want a nicer appearance.
9. If you want to decorate, you can make some patterns with the back of a teaspoon on the surface of the foam.
Why I make the recipe often
I like it because it's quick and doesn't require complicated equipment or ingredients. The result is a warm drink with a pleasant foam, suitable when you crave something with a coffee flavor but don't want strong coffee.
Tips and variations
Tips
If you want a denser foam, you can replace the cold water with sparkling water when mixing the ness and sugar. The foam will stay on the surface longer.
The milk should be warm, but not hot, so the foam doesn't curdle.
Try to mix the ness and sugar enough at the beginning; otherwise, you won't get that specific cream.
Substitutions
Instant ness cannot really be replaced in this recipe with another form of coffee, as it won't create that cream. If you don't have ness, I don't recommend using regular ground coffee.
Sugar can be adjusted to taste or replaced with brown sugar, but the texture will change slightly.
You can use plant-based milk (soy, almond, oat), but the consistency and taste will be different.
Variations
For a more intense flavor, increase the amount of ness to 3 teaspoons and use less sugar.
You can add a pinch of cinnamon or cocoa on top after adding the foam if you want something different.
Serving ideas
Ness with milk is best fresh, immediately after preparation, when the foam is still on the surface.
It goes well with plain biscuits or a slice of cake.
Frequently asked questions
Can I prepare ness with milk and leave it for later?
Not really. The foam disappears quite quickly, and the drink becomes flat. It's best to drink it immediately.
What kind of water should I use for the cream?
Cold tap water or sparkling water. Sparkling water helps form a denser foam.
Can I use less sugar?
Yes, but the consistency of the cream will suffer. You can try with 1-2 teaspoons if you don't like it very sweet, but the foam will be less.
Is it okay to use skim milk?
Yes, it can be done, but the drink will be less creamy and the foam will hold less.

Carbohydrates: 30-35g (from milk and sugar)

Storage and reheating
Ness with milk does not store well. If it remains, the foam disappears, and the taste is not the same after it cools down or is reheated. It's best to prepare only as much as you consume right away.
