Mixed fruit nectar

Beverages - Mixed fruit nectar by Brandusa D. - Recipia

Mixed fruit nectar is cold-pressed from apricots, Golden apples and citrus fruit with the white pith removed, and yields about 1,000 ml. I tried the juicer I received as a prize from Philips; when we have more people at the table, I double all the quantities. For the apricots, I choose fruit that is soft but still firm and comes apart easily in two. Prep: 20 minutes. Cook: 0 minutes. Total time: 20 minutes. Servings: 4. About 100 kcal and 1 g of protein per serving.

Ingredients

  • 6 apricots
  • 2 Golden apples
  • 2 oranges
  • 1 lemon

Preparation

1. Wash the fruit well under cold running water. 2. Grate the zest from the oranges and lemon, then remove the white pith. 3. Halve the apricots and remove the pits. Cut the apples into quarters without peeling them or removing the seeds. 4. Run all the fruit through the juicer. You’ll get about 1,000 ml of nectar.

Notes

I serve it for breakfast, with toast or a simple cheese sandwich. The Golden apples can be replaced, 2 at a time, with 2 juicy Fuji apples. Keep the nectar in a sealed bottle in the fridge and drink it the same day. Oranges and lemons at room temperature are easier to juice than cold ones straight from the fridge. The yield depends on how much juice the fruit contains; with very juicy fruit, you may get more than the approximately 1 litre you usually get.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace the oranges with mandarins?

Yes, use 4 mandarins instead of the 2 oranges and remove the white pith before juicing.

Why does the juice separate after juicing?

The fine pulp may settle at the bottom; shake the bottle 2-3 times before pouring.

Can I use grapefruit instead of oranges?

One pink grapefruit can replace the 2 oranges, but it will make the nectar taste more bitter.
