Quick Salad
To prepare a delicious and nutritious salad, we will start by cooking the rice and peas. Usually, the rice boils for about 15-20 minutes, depending on the type of rice you are using. Make sure to wash it well beforehand to remove any impurities. Peas, whether fresh or frozen, cook quickly, in just 5-7 minutes, until they become tender but retain a crunchy texture. After boiling, drain the rice and let it cool, and the peas, after being drained, can be rinsed with cold water to stop the cooking process.
While the rice and peas are cooling, we can take care of the other ingredients. Dice 200 grams of cheese, ensuring it is of good quality, to add rich flavor to the dish. Then, take 150 grams of ham, preferably smoked or brined, and cut it into cubes similar in size to the cheese. Open a can of tuna of about 200 grams, drain the oil well, and add the tuna to the large bowl where you will mix all the ingredients.
After adding the cheese, ham, and tuna, it’s time to incorporate the cooled peas and rice. Gently mix so that the ingredients combine evenly without crushing them. Now it’s important to adjust the salad’s taste with salt and pepper, keeping in mind that the ham and tuna may already add a hint of saltiness. Try to find the perfect balance so that every bite is full of flavor.
To add extra creaminess, mayonnaise is an optional ingredient that you can integrate into the salad. You can choose to add it directly, mixing gently, or serve it separately to allow each person to customize their taste. The salad can be served as an appetizer or a main dish, alongside a side of fresh vegetables or a slice of crispy bread. This dish is not only tasty but also full of nutrients, perfect for a summer meal or a picnic. Enjoy!
