Chicken Wings Boiled in Coca-Cola (Kele Jichi)
To prepare a delicious recipe for chicken wings with flavorful sauce, we will follow a few essential steps that will ensure a savory result.
We start by washing the chicken wings well under a stream of cold water. This step is crucial to remove any impurities. After the wings have been cleaned, we will place them in a large pot in which we have poured an adequate amount of cold water. We place the pot on the stove and wait for it to reach the boiling point. Once the water boils, we let them simmer for a few minutes to eliminate any blood clots and prepare the meat for the next stage. After that, we remove the wings from the water and rinse them under warm water a few times, ensuring they are perfectly clean.
Next, we heat a deep pan, adding a little oil to prevent sticking. When the oil is hot, we put the chicken wings to fry, making sure they are evenly spread on the bottom of the pan. We fry them over medium heat until both sides turn golden and crispy, which will add a pleasant texture to the dish.
As the wings brown, we chop the leek into suitable pieces and the ginger into thin slices, which we add to the pan. The flavors will combine excellently, and the dish will gain a distinctive taste. Immediately after, we pour in the vegetable broth and a splash of table wine, which will add extra complexity.
Once the ingredients start to boil, we add the soy sauce, an essential component that will give the dish an umami note. We let the wings simmer in this mixture over medium heat, turning them occasionally for even penetration. It is important for the sauce to become thick, and at the end, when the aroma becomes irresistible, we add salt to taste.
After achieving the desired consistency, we remove the wings to a plate and serve them with preferred side dishes. This dish can be enjoyed both hot and cold, being perfect for a family meal or a gathering with friends.
For an even more intense flavor, you can make a few cuts on the chicken wings, allowing the sauce to penetrate better into the meat. Also, if you prefer a less sweet taste, replace part of the cola with water and adjust the amount of soy sauce. Don’t forget to use a non-stick pan to avoid the skin sticking to the wings. Pay special attention to the last phase of preparation, ensuring that the heat is not too strong to prevent burning the wings. Enjoy your meal!
