Base: Start by preparing a fine mixture of eggs, sugar, vanilla sugar, a pinch of salt, and flour mixed with baking powder. These ingredients will blend well, resulting in a homogeneous and fluffy mixture. Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature to achieve an even base. Next, grease a baking tray with margarine, ensuring it is evenly covered to prevent sticking. Pour the mixture into the tray and place it in the preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius. Bake for about 30-40 minutes, carefully monitoring the time to avoid drying it out. When the base is ready, it should have a golden color and be elastic to the touch. After baking, let it cool on a rack, then cut it into three equal parts. Each of these parts will be cut in half, resulting in two bases from each part. When you have all the bases cut, turn each half into equal cubes, thus preparing the base for your delicious cake.

While the base cools, focus on the delicious cream. In a bowl, mix the flour with the sugar and vanilla sugar, ensuring there are no lumps. In another vessel, beat the egg yolks well, alternately adding a tablespoon of the flour mixture and a little cold milk. This step is crucial for obtaining a fine cream. Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly to prevent sticking to the bottom of the vessel. When the cream thickens sufficiently, take it off the heat and immediately fold in the beaten egg whites, carefully mixing from the bottom up to maintain the cream's airiness.

Now, take a dish and line it with cling film, ensuring you have enough cling film left to cover the cake well. Place a first layer of cube pieces of the base, without following any particular order, followed by half of the prepared cream. Then add half of the cherries, placing them side by side. If the cherries are a bit sour, you can sprinkle a little vanilla sugar to sweeten them. Repeat this process: a new layer of base cubes, followed by cream and cherries, ensuring that the last layer is of base cubes. Cover the dish well with cling film and refrigerate until the next day. The next day, carefully remove the cake from the fridge, turn it over onto a platter, and remove the cling film. Thus, with each visible layer, you will obtain an attractive, delicious cake, perfect to be enjoyed with loved ones.
