Cabbage Pie
To prepare this delicacy, we start by making a simple dough, which will be the base of our recipe. Using basic ingredients such as flour, water, salt, and yeast, we mix everything until we obtain a homogeneous dough. It is important to knead the dough well to develop its elasticity. Once we achieve a fine consistency, we cover the bowl with a clean towel and let the dough rise for about 15 minutes in a warm place. This step allows the yeast to act, resulting in a fluffy and airy dough.
After the dough has risen, we divide it into equal pieces, which we will roll out into thin sheets. It is recommended to use a well-floured working surface to prevent sticking. Rolling out the sheets can be an enjoyable activity, and each sheet should be as thin as possible to achieve a crispy texture in the end. Once we have the sheets rolled out, we brush them with a drizzle of oil, which will not only add flavor but also help with even baking.
The filling is essential for adding flavor to the dish, so we focus on that. In a heated pan, we add a few tablespoons of oil and sauté the finely chopped onion. The onion will become translucent and release an inviting aroma. Then, we add the tomato paste, which will provide a rich taste and a vibrant color to the mixture. It is important to add a little water to thin out the composition, so we obtain a well-bound filling.
After we have a flavorful base, we add the finely shredded cabbage, which will add a crunchy texture and a slightly sweet taste. We season with salt and pepper to taste and let everything sauté on low heat, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage becomes soft and releases its juices. Finally, we add the sugar, which will balance the acidity, and our filling mixture will be ready after it cools down a bit.
Each rolled-out sheet will be filled with this delicious cabbage mixture, which we will carefully roll up. The obtained rolls are placed in a baking dish lined with parchment paper, taking care not to overlap. We bake the dish at a medium temperature until it turns nicely golden brown, and the aroma will spread throughout the house. After baking, we let the dish cool, and before serving, it is recommended to cut it into portions. This dish is served cold, making it perfect for a snack or appetizer. Enjoy every bite!
