Mashed Potatoes, Special
To make a delicious and hearty side dish, we start by preparing the potatoes. Choose quality potatoes, peel them carefully, and cut them into uniform-sized cubes to ensure even cooking. Boil them in a generous pot in salted milk, or if you prefer, in a mixture of half milk and half water. This method will add a subtle flavor to the potatoes, making them tastier.
Add two tablespoons of oil to the pot with the potatoes to enhance the texture and add a touch of flavor. Let the potatoes boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until they become tender. Once they are ready, drain them well, but keep some of the cooking liquid, as it will be used later to achieve a finer puree.
After draining the potatoes, add pieces of butter over them and start mashing. It is important to use quality butter, as it will enrich the flavor of the puree. Gradually incorporate the warm milk you reserved, homogenizing each time until you achieve the desired consistency – a creamy puree, but not too runny.
To bring an extra flavor, add sour cream, cottage cheese, and vegeta. Chopped dill will add a fresh note, while crushed garlic, well mixed with the remaining oil, will give an intense and aromatic taste. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to your personal preference, and beat it well until it becomes frothy and airy.
Once the puree is ready, pour it into a heat-resistant dish that you previously greased with butter to prevent sticking. Sprinkle a generous layer of grated cheese on top, which will provide a golden and crispy crust during baking. Preheat the oven to a medium temperature and place the dish inside, allowing it to bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted and has a nice crust.
Serve this savory side dish hot, carefully portioned, and enjoy the perfect combination of flavors and textures. It is ideal alongside main meat or vegetable dishes, bringing an extra flavor to your meal. Enjoy your meal!
