To prepare a delicious bread recipe, we start by making a starter from yeast. Take one tablespoon of dry yeast and mix it with a cup of warm water, adding one tablespoon of sugar to activate the yeast. Let the mixture sit for about 10-15 minutes until the surface becomes frothy. This is a sign that the yeast is active and ready to be used.

In a large bowl, sift 500 grams of wheat flour. Add one teaspoon of salt and optionally, one teaspoon of olive oil for extra flavor and a fluffier texture. After the starter has fermented, add it to the bowl with the flour, along with another 200 ml of warm water. Start mixing the ingredients with a spatula or your hands until the dough begins to come together.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes elastic and smooth. The formation of gluten is essential, so do not skip this step. Once the dough is kneaded, place it in a clean bowl, cover it with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for one hour or until it doubles in size.

After the dough has risen, gently turn it out onto a floured surface to release the air. Shape it into your desired form, whether it’s a traditional loaf, a baguette, or rolls. Place it in a baking tray lined with parchment paper and cover it again, allowing it to rise for another 30 minutes.

While the dough rises, preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius. Just before putting the bread in the oven, make a few shallow cuts on the top to allow steam to escape and create a crispy crust. Bake the bread for 40-45 minutes until it is golden brown and sounds hollow when lightly tapped on the bottom.
