Apple jam is one of those delights that reminds us of family moments, warm and comforting aromas, and the golden autumn when apples reach their peak flavor. This simple and tasty recipe transforms 5 kg of apples into a sweet treasure, perfect for enjoying on a slice of toast or as a filling for pastries. I invite you to discover with me how to prepare this delicious jam!

Preparation time
- Preparation time: 20 minutes
- Cooking time: 1 hour
- Total time: 1 hour and 20 minutes
- Number of servings: Approximately 10 jars (400 g each)

Ingredients
- 5 kg fresh apples (choose sweet and aromatic apples, such as Golden or Fuji)
- 500 ml water
- 1 kg sugar (you can adjust the amount according to personal preferences)
- ½ vanilla bean or cinnamon stick (optional, vanilla essence is an excellent alternative)
- 1 teaspoon lemon essence (if you do not have a vanilla bean)

Preparing the apple jam

Step 1: Preparing the apples
Start by washing the apples well under a stream of cold water to remove any impurities. Once they are clean, it’s time to peel them. Use a sharp knife to remove the skin, then cut the apples into quarters or thin slices. If you want a finer texture, slice them thinner.

Step 2: Boiling the apples
In a large pot, add the cut apples and 500 ml of water. Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Let the apples boil for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. The apples will start to soften, releasing their natural juice.

Step 3: Adding the sugar
After 30 minutes, it’s time to add the sugar. Stir well to completely dissolve it into the mixture. Continue to boil over medium heat for another 30 minutes, stirring from time to time. During this time, you will notice foam forming on the surface; be sure to remove it with a skimmer to achieve a clear and smooth jam.

Step 4: Flavoring
About 5 minutes before turning off the heat, add the half vanilla bean or cinnamon stick. If you are using vanilla essence, add it just before you turn off the heat. This will add a deep and rich flavor to the jam.

Step 5: Packing
Once the jam has reached the desired consistency (you can check with a quick test: drop a few drops on a cold plate; if it holds its shape, it’s ready), turn off the heat. Let the jam cool for about 5 minutes, then carefully pour it into sterilized jars. Make sure the jars are completely filled, leaving a small space at the top for air expansion.

Step 6: Sealing
Close the jars with their lids and turn them upside down to create a vacuum. Leave them like this for a few hours to cool completely. This process will help preserve the jam for a longer period.

Useful tips for perfect jam
- Choosing the apples: Sweeter apples will require less sugar. If you prefer a tarter jam, you can combine sweet apples with some tart ones.
- Consistency test: If you want a thicker jam, let it boil longer, stirring constantly.
- Customization: Add half a teaspoon of freshly grated ginger for an extra flavor boost. This detail gives the jam an exotic note.
- Storage: The jam stores well in the pantry, but you can also keep it in the fridge for quicker consumption.

Pairings and serving suggestions
Apple jam pairs perfectly with a slice of toast, but it can also be used as a filling for pancakes or pastries. Try adding it to your morning yogurt or using it as a topping for warm muffins.

For a festive meal, combine the jam with goat cheese or aged cheese for an interesting appetizer. And don’t forget, a cup of green tea or a light white wine will perfectly complement the sweet taste of caramelized apples.

Nutritional benefits
Apples are an excellent source of fiber and vitamin C, and apple jam offers a delicious way to take advantage of these benefits. Additionally, by using a reduced amount of sugar, you can adjust the recipe to fit your healthy lifestyle.

Frequently asked questions
- What if the jam is too runny? If the jam hasn’t thickened enough, return it to the heat and boil it for a few more minutes to improve its consistency.
- Can I use other fruits? Yes, you can combine apples with pears or peaches for a mixed jam.
- How can I sterilize the jars? Boil the jars and lids for 10 minutes in water or wash them thoroughly in the dishwasher at high temperatures.

This apple jam recipe is not just a way to preserve delicious fruits, but also an opportunity to create beautiful memories in the kitchen. Enjoy every moment and every spoonful of this delicacy!
