We start our recipe by preparing a delicious dough for cookies that will bring smiles to the faces of our loved ones. The first step is to place the lard in a large bowl, and alongside it, we add a fresh egg. These ingredients are mixed well, and powdered sugar is added gradually. It is essential to ensure that the sugar dissolves completely in our mixture to achieve a fine and homogeneous texture.

Once the sugar has melted, we add grated orange zest, but I opted for lemon zest, which gives a refreshing and aromatic taste. The citrus aroma will make our cookies truly special. The next step is to quench the baking soda with lemon juice or vinegar. This reaction will help the cookies rise beautifully during baking, giving them a fluffy and light texture.

Once we have integrated these ingredients, we begin to add the flour. It is important to add it gradually, mixing well each time to control the consistency of the dough. If we want a softer dough, we can reduce the amount of flour, which will allow us to shape the cookies using a piping bag. If we prefer a firmer dough, we use about 300 g of flour, and from this dough, we will make small balls.

After we have formed the cookies, we place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Baking will be done at a medium to low temperature for about 10 minutes or until the edges turn nicely golden. It is essential to let them cool completely before decorating.

To give them a touch of elegance, we will melt a little chocolate that we will use for decoration. Each cookie will be dressed with a drizzle of melted chocolate, and for an extra flavor, we add a piece of candied carrot, some raisins, and almonds on top. These additions not only enhance the appearance but also bring a variety of textures and flavors. Our cookies are now ready to be enjoyed, and each bite will be an explosion of delicious flavors!
