Appetizers - Stuffed Tomatoes by Vera L. - Recipia
To prepare these delicious stuffed tomatoes, start by washing the tomatoes well with cold water, ensuring you remove any impurities. After cleaning them, dry them with a clean towel and cut them in half horizontally. This step is essential for creating a perfect nest for the filling. Using a teaspoon, which should be used very carefully, scoop out the pulp of the tomatoes and place it in a deep plate. This pulp will be the base of your sauce.

To enhance the flavor of the filling, chop a few cloves of garlic and add them to the plate with the tomato pulp. This will provide an intense and savory taste to the dish. In the same plate, add 4 tablespoons of breadcrumbs, which will contribute to the crunchy texture of the filling, and grated cheese on a large grater, which will bring a creamy note. Don’t forget the spices: sprinkle a little salt and pepper, to taste, and add a few finely chopped parsley and basil leaves. These fresh herbs will transform the filling into a true feast for the senses. Mix everything well with a spoon until the ingredients are homogeneous.

Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare a baking tray by lining it with aluminum foil, then drizzle a few drops of oil or grease it with a little butter to prevent the tomatoes from sticking. Using a spoon, fill each half of the tomato with the delicious mixture created earlier and arrange them nicely in the tray. On top, sprinkle a little breadcrumbs and add a few drops of olive oil to achieve a golden and appetizing crust.

Place the tray in the oven and let the tomatoes bake for 20-25 minutes. If you want the topping to become crunchier, in the last 5 minutes, you can raise the temperature to 400°F (204°C). The tomatoes are ready when they are nicely browned, and the crust on top has a shiny golden hue. After taking them out of the oven, let them cool for 5 minutes. Then, transfer them to an elegant plate and decorate them with a little finely chopped or thinly sliced basil for an extra touch of aroma and freshness. These stuffed tomatoes are not only a tasty dish but also a true visual feast. Enjoy your meal!
