Weekend rice
Cut the potatoes, carrots, and onion into medium cubes. These vegetables will add a delicious flavor and a pleasant texture to our dish. In a large pot, add the two cups of rice, making sure to wash it well beforehand to remove excess starch. This step will help achieve less sticky and fluffier rice. Over the rice, add the six cups of water, which will ensure even cooking of the ingredients.
After adding the water, it is the perfect time to add the chopped vegetables: potatoes, carrots, and onion. They will boil together with the rice, infusing it with their delicious flavors. Add salt to taste, and for an extra flavor boost, you can also use some spices like pepper, paprika, or herbs such as thyme or dill. These will transform the dish into an exceptionally tasty meal.
Place the pot over medium heat and wait for it to reach the boiling point. When the water starts to boil, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid. It is important not to lift the lid too often to prevent steam from escaping, as this helps cook the rice and vegetables evenly. Let it boil for about 20-25 minutes, or until the rice and vegetables are cooked and the water has been absorbed.
Finally, when the rice is ready, we will take it off the heat and let it sit covered for a few minutes to rest. This will allow the rice to absorb the last traces of moisture and make each grain fluffy. After resting, gently fluff with a fork to separate the rice grains.
Serve the dish warm, either as a main course or as a side dish alongside meat or fish. This dish is not only tasty but also nutritious, perfect for a family meal or with friends, and the combined flavors of the vegetables make it an excellent choice for any occasion. Enjoy your meal!
