Brussels sprouts are a versatile vegetable, packed with nutrients and an unmistakable taste, especially when prepared correctly. To prepare a delicious side of Brussels sprouts, start by washing each sprout well. It is essential to remove the tough stems, so you are left with only the tender leaves. You can use a sharp knife or a food processor to slice the sprouts as thinly as possible, which will help with even and quick cooking.

In a deep skillet, add a tablespoon of quality olive oil, then add the bacon cut into larger pieces. Moderate heat will allow the bacon to cook slowly, releasing fat and becoming crispy. Watch as the bacon changes color and turns golden; this is the perfect moment to add the Brussels sprouts. Gently stir to combine the flavors of the bacon with those of the sprouts.

After mixing well, add half a glass of water, about 50-60 ml. This step is crucial for creating steam and softening the sprouts. At this point, sprinkle salt and pepper to taste, as well as finely crushed garlic, which will add an intense and savory flavor. If you prefer a stronger garlic taste, you can opt for garlic salt.

Cover the skillet with a lid and let the sprouts steam for a few minutes. It is important to lift the lid occasionally to stir, ensuring that they do not stick to the bottom of the skillet. After about 7 minutes, the Brussels sprouts should be cooked, having a soft yet slightly crispy texture, full of flavors. Finally, you can lift the lid and shake the skillet a little, letting it cool under the lid until you are ready to serve.

This side can be served plain, alongside a fresh tomato salad, or as an excellent accompaniment to a juicy chicken steak. I love preparing Brussels sprouts this way because it is a quick and efficient method to create a healthy and tasty lunch. The total preparation time does not exceed 15 minutes, and the final taste is so savory that even those who are not fans of Brussels sprouts, like my husband, will change their minds when they see this appetizing side on their plate. This recipe not only enhances meals but also adds a health boost to your table.

Ingredients: For two servings: 1/2 kg Brussels sprouts, 4 slices of bacon, 1 tablespoon of olive/avocado/coconut oil (according to preference but must be quality), salt, pepper to taste, 1-2 cloves of garlic (or garlic salt)
