A simple yet flavorful dessert, honey and walnut wafers are the perfect combination of crunchy and sweet, ideal for any occasion. This quick dessert will satisfy your sweet cravings, and the preparation process is so simple that you can make it even on the busiest days.
### Necessary ingredients:
- 2 packs of wafer sheets (choose a type that is thin and crunchy)
- 300 g bee honey (preferably lime or sunflower honey for flavor)
- 200 g sugar (you can opt for brown sugar for a caramelized taste)
- 200 g walnuts (you can use Romanian walnuts, but also hazelnuts or almonds for variation)
- 50 ml rum (make sure to choose a quality rum)
- 2 tablespoons cocoa (dark cocoa for an intense flavor)
- 100 g butter (I recommend using butter with a high-fat content)
### Step-by-step instructions:
1. Preparing the mixture: In a pot, add the honey and sugar. Place the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly to ensure the sugar completely dissolves and does not caramelize. This will take about 5-7 minutes.
2. Adding the ingredients: Once the sugar has melted, add the finely chopped walnuts, rum, and cocoa. Mix well, but be careful not to bring it to a boil, as we don’t want to lose the flavor of the ingredients. Let the mixture cool slightly.
3. Assembling the wafers: Place a wafer sheet on a platter and spread it evenly with the honey, walnut, and cocoa mixture. Continue to layer the wafer sheets, spreading each sheet with the mixture until all sheets are used up.
4. Pressing the wafers: Once you have finished assembling, place a weight (for example, a heavier dish or tray) on top of the wafers to press them down. This will help to homogenize the mixture and make the wafers stick better.
5. Cooling: Leave the wafers in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours. This step is crucial, as it allows the flavors to blend and makes the wafers easier to cut.
6. Serving: After they have cooled, you can cut the wafers into diamonds or squares, depending on your preference.
### Practical tips:
- If you want an even more intense flavor, you can add a teaspoon of vanilla essence to the honey mixture.
- Instead of walnuts, you can experiment with other types of seeds, such as sunflower or pumpkin seeds, for a crunchier version.
- This dessert pairs perfectly with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a chocolate sauce for an indulgent touch.
Honey and walnut wafers are not just a quick dessert, but also a wonderful way to bring a homemade taste to every meal. Enjoy this simple delight and savor every bite!
