Tiramisu – an Italian dessert that combines tradition with an unmistakable coffee flavor and a velvety texture, turning every bite into an unforgettable experience. This delicious dessert is not just a culinary indulgence, but also a story in itself, reminding us of family meals in Italy, where dessert is always a moment of joy and togetherness.

Preparation time: 30 minutes
Cooling time: 8 hours (ideally overnight)
Total time: 8 hours and 30 minutes
Number of servings: 8

Ingredients

- 200g ladyfingers
- 250g mascarpone cheese
- 4 egg yolks
- 300ml warm water with 2 teaspoons of instant coffee
- 300ml heavy cream
- 1 packet of whipped cream stabilizer (optional, for a firmer texture)
- 1 packet of vanilla sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
- 5 tablespoons of powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons of Marsala wine (or French brandy, to taste)
- Cocoa for decoration

Step by step for a perfect Tiramisu

1. Preparing the coffee: Start by making the bitter coffee by mixing instant coffee in warm water. Let it cool completely. This will be the flavored base that gives character to your Tiramisu.

2. Egg yolk cream: In a bowl, combine the egg yolks with powdered sugar. Mix well until you achieve a smooth consistency. Then, place the bowl over a steam bath and continuously stir until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and add the vanilla essence. Let it cool, stirring occasionally to prevent a crust from forming.

3. Preparing the whipped cream: Using a mixer, beat the heavy cream on low speed until soft peaks form. If you want a more stable cream, you can add the whipped cream stabilizer.

4. Combining the ingredients: In another bowl, mix the mascarpone cheese with the vanilla sugar. Then, add the whipped cream and gently fold using a spatula until everything is well incorporated. Finally, add the egg yolk mixture and mix carefully again.

5. Assembling the Tiramisu: Line a loaf pan (or a rectangular baking dish) with plastic wrap. Quickly dip each ladyfinger in the cooled coffee mixed with Marsala wine and place them in a single layer at the bottom of the pan.

6. Layering: Spread a generous layer of cream over the ladyfingers. Continue to alternate layers of ladyfingers and cream until you finish the ingredients, ensuring the last layer is of ladyfingers. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 8 hours, ideally overnight.

7. Finishing: Once the Tiramisu has cooled and set, carefully invert the dish onto a serving platter. Dust with cocoa on top for an elegant look and intense flavor. Cut into appropriately sized slices and serve.

Useful tips for a successful Tiramisu

- Quality of ingredients: Use good quality coffee, preferably espresso, and fresh mascarpone cheese for the best results. The taste of Tiramisu heavily depends on these ingredients.

- Variations: You can experiment with different flavors by adding a few drops of coffee liqueur or almond extract to the mascarpone cream. An interesting variation is fruit Tiramisu, replacing some of the coffee with fruit purees.

- Serving: Tiramisu pairs perfectly with a cup of coffee or a glass of sweet wine, complementing its rich flavors. Additionally, vanilla ice cream can create a pleasant contrast.

Nutritional benefits

Tiramisu offers a combination of nutrients from mascarpone cheese, which is rich in calcium and protein, and from eggs, which contain essential vitamins. However, be aware that it is a calorie-dense dessert, with approximately 300-400 calories per serving, depending on the ingredients used.

Frequently asked questions

- Can I use another type of cheese?: Although mascarpone is the classic ingredient, you can experiment with cottage cheese or ricotta, but the texture and flavor will be different.

- Is Tiramisu safe for children?: Due to the alcohol content in Marsala wine, it is recommended to omit this ingredient or use a non-alcoholic substitute if preparing the dessert for children.
