Dragobete Cake, Heart - A Delicacy Full of Love

Dragobete is a celebration filled with romance and love, and a special cake dedicated to this day is a perfect way to celebrate feelings. Even though in some corners of the country Dragobete is not celebrated, I decided to create a unique little cake, a heart-shaped cake that combines delicate flavors and an attractive presentation. This cake is not only a celebration of love, but also a culinary delight that will enchant anyone.

Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 25 minutes
Total time: 55 minutes
Number of servings: 8

Ingredients:

For the base:
- 3 eggs
- 3 tablespoons of sugar
- 3 tablespoons of flour (sifted)
- 1 packet of vanilla
- 1/2 packet of baking powder Dr. Oetker

For the cream:
- 1 packet of vanilla cream Dr. Oetker
- 250 ml of cold milk
- 1 packet of red cake gel
- 1 vanilla pod
- Frozen cherries (pitted)
- Pineapple compote (a few cubes)

For decoration:
- Black grapes
- Green coconut
- Orange slices
- Silver candies

Step by Step Preparation:

1. Preparing the Base:
Start by separating the egg whites from the yolks. Use a large bowl to beat the 3 egg whites until you achieve a stiff foam. This is the moment when air is incorporated, making the base fluffy and delicious. Gradually add the sugar and vanilla, continuing to beat until the sugar completely dissolves and you achieve a glossy foam.

2. Incorporate the Yolks:
Add the 3 yolks to the egg white foam and gently mix with a spatula, avoiding destroying the foam. It is important to use a delicate motion to keep the air in the mixture.

3. Add the Flour and Baking Powder:
Sift the flour and baking powder together, then add them to the mixture in a rain-like manner. Carefully homogenize so that no lumps form. When everything is well mixed, pour the mixture into a cake pan lined with parchment paper.

4. Baking the Base:
Preheat the oven to 180°C and bake the base for 20-25 minutes. You can check if it is baked by using a toothpick: insert a toothpick in the middle of the base; if it comes out clean, the base is ready.

5. Preparing the Cream:
While the base cools, you can start preparing the cream. Mix the cake gel packet with sugar and water or juice from the compote, according to the packaging instructions. Boil the mixture until it thickens, then let it cool.

6. Vanilla Cream:
In another bowl, beat the vanilla cream powder with 250 ml of cold milk, according to the packaging instructions. Add the frozen cherries and pineapple pieces from the compote and mix well. Finally, incorporate the previously prepared gelatin, beating the cream until it doubles in volume.

7. Assembling the Cake:
Once the base has completely cooled, cut it in half (if you want a two-layer cake) and soak each layer with syrup from the compote. Spread the vanilla cream evenly on the first layer, then place the second layer of base on top.

8. Decorating the Cake:
To add extra charm to the cake, use black grapes, orange slices, silver candies, and green coconut. You can create cookie shapes from the cream, sprinkling coconut on top, and then carefully removing the shapes. This detail adds a playful and original touch.

9. Serving:
Serve the cake with a glass of fresh orange juice or a sparkling drink, which will highlight the flavor of this delicious dessert. Each slice is an explosion of flavors, with a slightly sour taste from the cherries, perfectly blending with the sweetness of the pineapple.

Practical Tips:
- Use room temperature eggs for a better foam.
- I recommend using quality flour, as it influences the final texture of the base.
- If you don’t have frozen cherries, you can use other fruits like strawberries or raspberries.
- The cake can be stored in the refrigerator, but let it sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes before serving to regain its fluffy texture.

Nutritional Benefits:
This cake has a moderate calorie content, considering the ingredients used. The flour and eggs provide protein, while the fruits bring vitamins and antioxidants. It is a dessert that, when consumed in moderation, can be part of a balanced diet.

Possible Variations:
You can transform this heart cake into a seasonal delicacy by adding other fruits, such as peaches or mango, to the cream. Additionally, for a more intense flavor, you can replace the vanilla cream with chocolate cream.

Frequently Asked Questions:
1. How can I avoid the base becoming dry?
Answer: Make sure not to overbake the base and use a sweet syrup to keep it moist.

2. Can I use fresh fruits instead of compote?
Answer: Absolutely! Fresh fruits add a touch of freshness, but make sure they are well washed and cleaned.

3. How can I make the cake less sweet?
Answer: Reduce the amount of sugar in the base and cream, and instead of compote syrup, you can use water with a little lemon juice.

This Dragobete Cake, Heart, not only looks splendid, but also offers a refined taste and an unforgettable culinary experience. Whether you prepare it for a special occasion or simply to pamper your family, this dessert will surely please everyone. So, put your cooking cravings into action and enjoy every bite full of love!
