Desert - Wasp Nest (Quick Recipe) by Speranta L. - Recipia
I have learned a lot from Americans regarding cooking, some things being excellent, while others less successful. However, the recipe I will share today is truly special: wasp nests are a wonderful dessert that is quick to prepare and can be enjoyed both fresh and a day later, as long as they are reheated. The secret to succeeding with this cake lies in having a soft and non-sticky bread dough. If you don't opt for the store-bought version, I suggest preparing the bread dough and keeping it in the freezer so that you always have a few packs on hand for days when you don't feel like kneading.

When you decide to make the dough, if you notice it is a bit sticky, don't worry! Leave it in the fridge overnight; the next day it will be perfect for making wasp nests. The process starts by rolling the dough into a thin sheet, about half a centimeter thick. Then grease the sheet with 75 grams of soft butter, and sprinkle brown sugar on top, the amount depending on your preferences; I prefer to add more to achieve a sweet and caramelized taste. The combination of melted butter with brown sugar will create a wonderful syrup during baking, which will add a layer of flavor to the wasp nests.

After sprinkling the sugar, add cinnamon to taste; I personally love the aroma of this spice, so I don’t hold back. Gently press the sugar and cinnamon mixture with your palm, then roll the dough tightly. Make sure that after rolling, you press the dough slightly between your palms to eliminate any air bubbles. Cut the roll into slices about 4 cm thick and place them cut side up in a greased baking tray. Cover the tray with greased plastic wrap and leave it in the fridge overnight.

In the morning, take the tray out of the fridge and let it come to room temperature. Preheat the oven to medium heat, and after waiting for 10 minutes, place the tray in to bake. When the nests are ready, take them out and let them cool on the work surface. Meanwhile, prepare the cream cheese by mixing Philadelphia cheese with butter, which you have warmed slightly in the microwave or left at room temperature. Add a tablespoon of milk and vanilla, then incorporate powdered sugar until you achieve a smooth mixture.

When the nests have cooled, generously spread them with cream cheese. These delicious wasp nests are perfect for a savory breakfast alongside a cup of milk. Another important note: to cut the slices perfectly, you can use dental floss, a simple and effective method. If you want to enjoy them the same day, let them rise in a warm place, and when they have doubled in volume, bake them and then spread them with cream cheese. This recipe not only brings a touch of joy but also spreads inviting aromas throughout the house.
