Delicious mushroom recipe with onion and garlic: a simple and tasty dish

If you are looking for a simple, quick, and flavorful recipe, mushrooms with onion and garlic are the perfect choice. This dish is not only easy to make but also versatile, as it can be served as a side dish or as a main course, alongside a serving of polenta or fresh bread.

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Total time: 30 minutes
Number of servings: 4

Ingredients:
- 500 g champignon mushrooms (fresh, preferably)
- 1 large onion
- 7 cloves of garlic
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste

Step 1: Prepare the ingredients
Start by cleaning the mushrooms. If you have large mushrooms, cut them into smaller pieces, but not too finely, to maintain the texture. Smaller mushrooms can be halved. The cleaned onion will be sliced julienne (thin strips), and the garlic will be thinly sliced. These details are important for the flavors to release evenly during cooking.

Step 2: Sauté the onion and garlic
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until it becomes translucent. Then, add the sliced garlic and continue to sauté for another 2 minutes, being careful not to burn it, as garlic can become bitter.

Step 3: Add the mushrooms
Once the onion and garlic are ready, add the mushrooms to the skillet. Sprinkle a little sweet paprika over the mushrooms and mix well. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the mushrooms sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally. The mushrooms will start to release their juices, and the flavors will combine perfectly.

Step 4: Boil and season
After the mushrooms have sautéed, add 1/2 cup of water, salt, and pepper to taste. Also, add the dried thyme, which will bring an extra flavor. Let the dish simmer until the liquid evaporates almost completely, and the mushrooms become tender, for about 5-10 minutes.

Step 5: Serving
The mushrooms with onion and garlic are served hot, as a side dish or as a main course. For an extra flavor boost, you can sprinkle some freshly chopped parsley or grated Parmesan on top. This dish pairs perfectly with a fresh salad or a slice of crusty bread.

Variation suggestions:
If you want to add a touch of originality, you can experiment with different types of mushrooms, such as shiitake or portobello. You can also add spices like oregano or rosemary to slightly change the flavor profile.

This recipe is not only delicious but also very healthy, considering the benefits of mushrooms, which are rich in vitamins and minerals. Try making it and enjoy a comforting and flavorful dish!
