Meat - Sweet bread (stick dough) by Maria J. - Recipia
We start our culinary adventure with a delicious homemade bread recipe that will fill the kitchen with enticing aromas. The first step is to gather the necessary ingredients: quality flour, liquid yeast, sugar, a fresh egg, water or milk (depending on preferences), and salt. In a large bowl, we will mix the flour with the liquid yeast and sugar. It is important to ensure that the yeast is active so that the bread rises nicely. We add the beaten egg, which will give a rich flavor and a fluffy texture to the dough, then pour in the chosen liquid, either water or milk, and sprinkle the salt.

After the ingredients are combined, we begin to knead the dough with vigorous movements. Kneading is essential as it helps develop the gluten, which will make our bread fluffier. When the dough becomes elastic and homogeneous, we gradually add the oil, a little at a time, continuing to knead. The oil will provide a subtle flavor and keep the bread soft even after it has cooled. Once we finish kneading, we cover the bowl with a clean towel and let the dough rise in a warm place until it doubles in volume.

When the dough has risen, it’s time to play with it. We tear pieces from the dough and form balls, placing them in a round tray, leaving enough space between them to rise. We can also use the leftover dough to create smaller balls to fill the spaces between the larger balls, providing a nice appearance and varied texture. After placing the balls in the tray, we let them rise again, this time for about 30 minutes, until they become fluffy and voluminous.

Meanwhile, we preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius. It’s time to prepare the bread for baking. We brush the surface with the beaten egg, which will give a beautiful golden color and an appetizing crust. If we wish, we can sprinkle poppy seeds or sesame seeds for an extra flavor and decorative appearance.

Once the oven has reached the desired temperature, we place the tray with bread in to bake. After 10-15 minutes, when we see that the bread begins to brown, we reduce the temperature to 180 degrees Celsius to allow for even baking. We bake the bread until it becomes golden and crispy on the outside. When it is ready, we take the bread out of the oven and let it cool on a rack. There is nothing more pleasant than the smell of freshly baked bread filling your home with warmth and comfort!
