Desert - Grilled Bananas by Zenobia L. - Recipia
Bananas are a versatile ingredient, and grilling them brings an intense flavor and surprising texture. We start by washing the bananas well under a stream of cold water, making sure to remove any impurities from their surface. After cleaning them, we dry them with a clean, absorbent towel to ensure there is no water that could interfere with the frying process. Then, we carefully place them on the hot grill, taking care not to place them too close to each other so they can cook evenly.

Grilling the bananas takes about 5-7 minutes, during which we make sure to turn them periodically to achieve an even brown color all over the surface. This caramelization of the skin not only gives them an appetizing appearance but also a sweet and intense flavor that will transform the bananas into a special dessert. Once the skin has turned brown, we take the bananas off the grill and let them cool slightly before peeling them.

To prepare them for serving, we peel each banana from a thick strip of skin at the top. Here, the hot pulp will be exposed and can be easily enjoyed. We generously sprinkle sugar over the warm pulp, which will help create a contrast between the natural sweetness of the banana and the crunchy texture of the sugar. If you want to add a touch of refinement, you can drizzle the pulp with Metaxa, a delicious brandy that will add extra flavor and complexity to the dish.

After adding the sugar and, if desired, the Metaxa, we sprinkle ground walnuts or crushed peanuts on top. These will not only add a crunchy note but also a rich flavor that will perfectly complement the sweetness of the caramelized banana. This simple yet extremely tasty dessert can be served both as a quick snack and as an elegant dessert, ideal for a special dinner. Regardless of the occasion, grilled bananas with sugar and nuts are an inspired choice that will delight everyone's taste buds.

Ingredients

4 bananas 3 tablespoons of sugar 4 teaspoons of Metaxa (I didn't add it because of the kids) 3 tablespoons of ground walnuts (or ground hazelnuts)
