Appetizers - Burek (Cheese Pie) by Victoria K. - Recipia
To prepare a delicious cheese pie, we will start by mixing the cheeses. Instead of cottage cheese, I opted for sheep cheese, which adds a more intense and salty flavor to the dish. The cheeses are combined with the eggs, and to achieve a creamy texture, we add sour cream diluted with milk. It is important to mix the ingredients well so that the composition becomes quite fluid but consistent.

While we prepare the mixture, we take care of the baking tray where we will bake the pie. We drizzle it with oil to prevent the dough from sticking. Then, we place the first two layers of dough, making sure to overlap them slightly. Depending on the thickness of the sheets, the number may vary, but I used a package with 13 sheets and made four layers. Over each layer of sheets, we add a portion of the cheese, egg, and sour cream mixture, ensuring that we distribute the ingredients evenly.

We continue to build the pie by adding a new layer of sheets after each portion of filling. It is important that in the end, we finish with a layer of sheets, which will become crispy and delicious during baking. Once we finish layering the sheets and the mixture, we take care of the topping. We spread whipped cream with egg on top of the pie, and if you wish, you can also use kefir for a more unique taste.

The pie is placed in the preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) and baked for about 50 minutes. It is important to monitor the baking process, as the pie will puff up nicely, and the surface will take on a golden color. After it is baked, we take it out of the oven and cover the tray with aluminum foil, letting it cool. This step is essential as it helps retain moisture inside.

Once it has completely cooled, the pie can be cut into squares or slices, according to preference. Despite its slightly "bronzed" appearance on top, the taste will be delicious and comforting. It is a versatile recipe, perfect for a family meal or to be served as an appetizer at a party. Enjoy every bite and savor the savory combination of cheeses!
