Green beans with turkey meat

Recently, I've been making green beans with turkey meat quite often. I usually cook it when I feel like something simple and hearty. Plus, it doesn't require special ingredients, just a few vegetables and a turkey breast, and the rest almost takes care of itself. I usually make the recipe on weekends, but it's also great for a relaxed evening, especially if I already have canned green beans in the pantry. Quick Info Total time: about 1 hour Preparation time: 15-20 minutes Cooking time: 40-45 minutes (including oven) Servings: 3-4 Difficulty: easy Recipe type: main dish, home cooking Ingredients - 1 turkey breast (500-600 g) - 2 jars of green beans (drained) - 1/2 can of diced tomatoes (about 200 g) - 1 onion - 1/2 red bell pepper - 1 clove of garlic - olive oil (2-3 tablespoons, for sautéing) - 50 ml white wine - salt, red pepper, ginger (to taste) Preparation steps 1. Clean the onion and chop it finely. Dice the red bell pepper. Heat a little olive oil in a large pot and add the onion and bell pepper to sauté. Stir occasionally, keeping the heat moderate. 2. Cut the turkey breast into suitable pieces, not too big or too small. When the onion starts to become translucent, add the meat to the pot. Sauté everything together for 2-3 minutes, just enough for the meat to get a bit of color. 3. Pour the white wine over the meat and vegetables. Let it simmer on low heat until the liquid reduces almost completely. Don't rush this step; it really matters for the flavor to not leave too much liquid. 4. Add the drained green beans over the meat. Also, add a little water – about half a cup, just enough for everything to boil without becoming a soup. 5. Season with salt, red pepper, and a little grated or powdered ginger. Add the diced tomatoes along with the finely chopped garlic. Mix well and let it simmer on medium heat for about 10 minutes. 6. Transfer the mixture from the pot to a suitable baking dish. Level it out a bit; it doesn't have to look perfect. Place the dish in the oven at 180°C for 20-30 minutes. The dish just needs to bind together and reduce a little. 7. Remove the dish and let it sit for a few minutes before serving. The dish is served hot, usually with pickles. Why I make the recipe often I make it quite often because it's quick, doesn't require much planning, and is suitable for dinner or lunch. The canned green beans quickly take care of the vegetable part, and the turkey meat stays tender. Plus, it reheats well if there are leftovers. Tips and variations Tips - For a better texture, drain the green beans as well as possible from the jar before adding them to the dish. - If you have time, let the meat marinate for a few minutes with a little salt, pepper, and wine. - Don't leave the dish in the oven too long; otherwise, the beans can dry out. Substitutions - The turkey breast can be replaced with thigh, but the cooking time will be slightly longer. - If you don't have red bell pepper, regular bell pepper works too. - For those who don't consume wine, you can omit it without changing the final taste too much. Variations - You can add a few thin slices of carrot at the beginning for sweetness. - For those who want a more intense flavor, you can add a little chopped parsley at the end. - If you want a heartier dish, add 2-3 small diced potatoes along with the green beans. Serving ideas - It is most often served with pickles, especially in winter. - It also goes well with a slice of whole grain bread or cold polenta. Frequently asked questions 1. Can I use frozen green beans? Yes, just boil them for a few minutes beforehand and drain them well. Don't add them frozen directly. 2. What do I do if I don't have white wine? You can omit the wine. You don't need to replace it with another liquid; the dish will turn out fine without it. 3. Does the turkey meat come out dry? If you don't leave it in the oven too long, the meat stays quite tender. The pieces shouldn't be too small; otherwise, they can dry out easily. 4. Can I use fresh tomatoes? Yes, you can use a few fresh tomatoes diced, but they should be ripe. It's best to peel them beforehand. 5. Can I make it without the oven? Yes, you can boil everything on the stove until the liquid reduces and thickens. But the final texture will be slightly different. Nutritional values Approximately, one serving has about 300-350 kcal, with 30-35 g of protein, 8-10 g of fat, and 25-30 g of carbohydrates. These are just approximate values, as they can vary depending on the type of beans, meat, and how much oil you use. Storage and reheating The dish keeps well in the fridge, in a closed container, for a maximum of 2 days. It can be reheated in the microwave or in a pot with a little water over low heat. If you leave it too long, the beans become soft and the meat loses its texture, so I don't recommend keeping it for too many days.
