Buffalo Tofu in Japanese breadcrumb crust (Panko)

Appetizers - Buffalo Tofu in Japanese breadcrumb crust (Panko) by Silvia M. - Recipia

To prepare a delicious recipe for tofu marinated in Buffalo sauce, we start by ensuring that the tofu is well-pressed. This process is essential as it helps remove excess water from the tofu, allowing it to absorb the flavors of the sauce. So, we take a block of tofu, wrap it in a clean towel, and place it under a heavy object, like an atlas or a thick book, letting it sit for about 20 minutes. In the meantime, we can prepare the Buffalo sauce. This is a spicy and flavorful sauce made from a combination of hot sauce, melted butter, and spices. If you want to make a vegan version, replace the butter with olive oil or a plant-based alternative. After the tofu has been pressed, we cut it into medium-sized pieces suitable for eating with fingers. In a bowl, we pour the Buffalo sauce and add the tofu pieces, carefully mixing to ensure each piece is evenly coated with sauce. We cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the tofu marinate for about 30 minutes so that the flavors penetrate well inside. After the marinating time has passed, we prepare a deep plate with breadcrumbs. These will add a wonderful crispy texture to our tofu. We take each marinated tofu piece and gently roll it in the breadcrumbs, making sure they are evenly coated. Next, we preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius. We place the tofu pieces on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, ensuring to leave space between each piece for even baking. We bake the tofu in the oven for about 25-30 minutes, turning it halfway through to ensure it browns evenly. When the tofu becomes golden and crispy, we take it out of the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. It can be served as an appetizer, accompanied by a yogurt sauce or a blue cheese sauce for a delicious contrast. This recipe is not only tasty but also healthy, offering an excellent alternative to traditional meat dishes. Enjoy every bite!
