Cherry, cereal and yogurt breakfast

Children - Cherry, cereal and yogurt breakfast by Ivona O. - Recipia

Cherry, cereal and yogurt breakfast layers yogurt, fruit and flakes with seeds. It comes out cold and creamy, with visible pieces of cherry and cereal that’s still a little crunchy at first. I stir the honey into the yogurt and choose a thick one, so the layers hold. Preparation: 10 minutes. Cook time: 0 minutes. Total time: 10 minutes. Servings: 2. Approximately 350 kcal and 6 g protein per serving.

Ingredients

  • 400 g full-fat yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons whole-grain cereal flakes
  • 2 tablespoons seed mix
  • 1 tablespoon walnut kernels (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon runny honey or agave or maple syrup
  • 100 g pitted cherries
  • 2 g fresh mint

Preparation

1. Mix the whole-grain cereal flakes with the seed mix and walnut kernels, if using. 2. Stir the runny honey or chosen syrup into the yogurt. 3. In two clear glasses, layer the yogurt, cereal mixture and pitted cherries. Repeat the layers and decorate with fresh mint or whole cherries.

Notes

Firm cherries cut more cleanly. If they’re very ripe and release juice, drain them before assembling. Fine flakes soften faster than larger ones, so the texture changes if the glasses sit for a long time. You can prepare the dry mix and fruit ahead, but keep them separate from the yogurt until close to serving. Serve the glasses alongside toast; strawberries, peaches or apricots, cut into pieces, can replace the cherries. For a lower-fat version, use the same amount of low-fat yogurt, and replace the honey with agave or maple syrup if you like. The cereal may contain gluten, the walnuts are optional, and the yogurt contains dairy.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use frozen cherries?

Yes. Let them thaw completely and drain them in a sieve for 10 minutes before adding them to the glasses.

Does Greek yogurt work?

Yes, use plain, unflavored Greek yogurt instead of regular yogurt.

Can I replace the flakes with granola?

Yes, use granola instead of the flakes and skip the honey if it’s already sweetened.
