Warm sandwich with parmesan and Prague ham!

If I'm in a hurry in the morning or when I crave something warm and filling without too much hassle, I make this sandwich with Prague ham and Parmesan. I find it much better than any store-bought toast, and I can control how toasted the bread is or how much Parmesan to add. Sometimes I rub the slices with a little garlic - especially if I feel the need for something more aromatic. It’s quick to make, and I don’t need to dirty a pan or turn on the oven. Quick Info Total time: 7 minutes Servings: 1 large sandwich Difficulty: Very easy Ingredients 2 slices of bread (any type, preferably not too fresh) 15-20 g butter, at room temperature 4 slices of Prague ham (or any pressed ham, not too thin) 20-25 g grated Parmesan (more or less, to taste) Ketchup, for decoration or serving (optional) 1 small clove of garlic Preparation Method 1. If using garlic, peel it and lightly rub it on one side of each slice of bread. It feels better if the bread is not too soft. 2. Spread butter on one side of the slices. Don’t put too much, just enough to cover the surface. 3. On one slice, place the Prague ham as evenly as possible. 4. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan over the ham in a not too thick layer (if there’s too much Parmesan, it may melt harder). 5. Place the other slice of bread on top, with the buttered side facing out. 6. Put the sandwich on a microwave-safe plate. 7. Microwave for 1 minute and a half on medium power (I set it to 600W; if you have a stronger microwave, check at 1 minute to prevent the bread from hardening). 8. Carefully remove the sandwich – it will be hot. Let it sit for 1 minute to stabilize. 9. Cut diagonally and add a little ketchup on top or on the side, as preferred. Why I make this recipe often It’s very quick, I hardly dirty anything, and I don’t have to supervise anything on the stove. I like that I can easily vary the ingredients based on what’s in the fridge. The sandwich is filling, and the combination of ham and Parmesan never goes out of style. If I have guests or kids visiting, I can make 2-3 servings without wasting time. There’s no need for special dishes. Tips Do not use fresh bread, as it can get soft in the microwave. A slice that is a day or two old has a better texture. For a more intense flavor, let the butter sit on the bread for at least a minute before adding the ham. If the Parmesan is very dry, you can mix a little melted cheese with it – it will melt better. Do not heat too much in the microwave, otherwise, the sandwich will become rubbery. Substitutions Parmesan can be replaced with gouda, mozzarella, cheddar, or any cheese that melts well. Prague ham can be replaced with sliced chicken breast, ham, prosciutto, or even salami. Instead of butter, you can use cream cheese (but it will be creamier and less crunchy). If you don’t have ketchup, mustard or a teaspoon of tomato sauce will work too. Variations You can add a thin slice of tomato between the ham and cheese. For added texture, sprinkle some sesame seeds on the buttered side. If you like it spicy, add a few drops of hot sauce before microwaving the sandwich. It also works with whole grain or seeded bread. Serving Ideas I usually put it on a warm plate, with a glass of fresh orange juice beside it. It goes well with a salad of raw vegetables if I want to feel like I'm eating something more balanced. Cut into small triangles, it’s also good as a quick snack at a larger meal. Frequently Asked Questions Does the bread become rubbery in the microwave? If you use a slice of bread that is not too fresh, it shouldn’t become rubbery. If the sandwich is left too long in the microwave, that can happen. Heat just enough to melt the cheese. Can I make the recipe in a sandwich maker or pan? Yes, it works very well in a sandwich maker or directly in a pan, 2-3 minutes on each side. In a pan, you get a crunchier crust. Can it be prepared in advance and heated later? The sandwich is best right after it’s made. However, if you want to make it in advance, reheat it for 30 seconds in the microwave or 2 minutes in a pan on low heat. Can it be made without butter? Yes, but the butter helps with taste and texture. Without butter, the sandwich will be a little drier. Nutritional Values (per sandwich, estimated) Calories: 320-350 kcal Protein: 18-22 g (depending on ham and cheese) Fat: 16-18 g Carbohydrates: 28-32 g Quantities may vary depending on the type of bread and how much Parmesan you use. For a lighter sandwich, use less butter or lean ham. Storage and Reheating If you want to store the sandwich, let it cool completely, then wrap it in plastic wrap. Keep it in the fridge for a maximum of 12-16 hours. To reheat, put it in the microwave for 30 seconds or in a pan on very low heat, covered. The bread won’t be as fresh as at the beginning, but the taste remains okay. I do not recommend keeping the sandwich for more than a day.
