Rose Sandwich

In the morning, when I feel like having something warm but don’t want to spend too much time in the kitchen, I make this quick oven sandwich. I usually use a mini baguette that I have on hand, a bit of chicken pastrama, and some cheese. I love that everything can go in the same dish and it's ready in a minute, without creating a lot of dishes. If I have pomegranate seeds and radish leaves, I add them at the end for freshness. Quick Info Total time: about 5-7 minutes Preparation time: 3-5 minutes Cooking time: 1 minute in the microwave Servings: 1 sandwich (enough for one person) Difficulty: very easy Recipe type: quick breakfast Ingredients - 1 mini baguette - a few slices of chicken pastrama - a few slices of Delaco DeSendviș cheese - a bit of butter (enough to spread on the bread slices) - 1 tablespoon pomegranate seeds - 2 red radish leaves (from the moon) Preparation steps 1. Cut the mini baguette into thin slices, just thick enough not to break when handled. 2. Spread a little butter on one side of each slice. 3. Stand the bread slices upright, side by side, in an oven-safe dish. They shouldn’t be too tight, but not too spread out either. 4. Between the bread slices, alternate placing a slice of pastrama and a slice of cheese. Don’t worry about perfect order; just make sure they are distributed fairly evenly. 5. Sprinkle a little grated cheese on top, not too much—just enough to cover and melt. 6. Place the dish in the microwave and cook for about 1 minute, until the cheese on top starts to melt nicely. Be careful not to let it dry out too much. 7. Carefully remove the sandwich from the dish—it can be easily lifted with a spatula. Place it in a muffin tin to give it a more compact shape. 8. Finally, garnish with pomegranate seeds and radish leaves. Why I make this recipe often It's quick, almost no dishes to wash, and uses ingredients I usually have in the fridge. I like that I can easily vary it and that it looks good on the plate even when I don’t put in much effort. Tips and variations Tips - Don’t cut the bread too thick, so it heats evenly. - Don’t use too much butter, or it will become too greasy. - If the cheese doesn’t melt completely after 1 minute, add another 10-15 seconds, but watch out for burning edges. Substitutions - Instead of chicken pastrama, you can use any other type of pastrama or ham you have in the fridge. - The cheese can be any type of sliced cheese that melts easily. - If you don’t have radish leaves, you can skip them or use any fresh greens. Variations - If you want it to be more filling, you can use a whole baguette and proportionally increase the amount of ingredients. - For a more intense flavor, you can add a little pepper or chili flakes on top before microwaving. Serving ideas - It pairs well with coffee or orange juice for breakfast. - If you want to serve more people, you can multiply the ingredients and prepare it directly in a larger dish. Frequently asked questions Can I make the sandwich without a microwave? Yes, you can use a regular oven at medium temperature. It will take about 5-7 minutes, just enough to melt the cheese and heat the bread slices. Can I use a different bread instead of the mini baguette? Yes. You can use any kind of baguette or sliced bread, but the mini baguette is the right size for individual servings and a compact look. Can I skip the pomegranate seeds? Yes. The pomegranate seeds only add freshness and color, but the sandwich is good without them. Can I make the sandwich in advance? I don’t recommend it. It’s best enjoyed right after you take it out of the oven while it’s hot and the cheese is melted. Nutritional values Estimate for one serving (1 sandwich): - Calories: approx. 320-400 kcal - Protein: 18-22 g - Carbohydrates: 32-38 g - Fat: 10-15 g Values may vary depending on the type of bread and the amount of cheese or pastrama used. Storage and reheating This sandwich doesn’t store well for later. If it cools down, it hardens and the cheese loses its texture. It’s best to make and eat it right away while it’s warm. If you need to reheat it, put it back in the microwave for 10-15 seconds, but the texture won’t be the same.
