My Niçoise Salad

To create a delicious and colorful salad, we start by carefully preparing the vegetables. We choose the freshest vegetables, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and onions, each playing its role in adding flavor and texture. We peel the vegetables, wash them well under a stream of cold water, and then cut them into a shape we like, whether we opt for rounds or thin slices, depending on our preferences. This step is important because the presentation of the salad will certainly influence the appetite. After we finish with the vegetables, we turn to the eggs. We boil them carefully until they become hard, then let them cool. Once cooled, we cut them into quarters, so each piece can be easily integrated into the salad. Now, we take care of the fish. Whether we choose tuna or sardines, we ensure that we drain them well from the oil they were preserved in or their own juice, to prevent the salad from becoming too wet. In a large bowl, we mix the cut vegetables, being careful to combine them well to achieve an even distribution of colors and flavors. On top of the vegetables, we delicately place the prepared fish, followed by the pieces of egg. These not only add an attractive appearance but also essential proteins. The last step is to sprinkle olives, which will bring a salty taste and a Mediterranean touch to our salad. We season to taste with salt, pepper, and possibly a few drops of extra virgin olive oil for added flavor. Personally, I like to serve this salad on slices of rustic bread. This way, we ensure that every bite is full of flavor. If you want to do the same, add to the necessary ingredients 4 small pieces of rustic bread, which you can hollow out or cut in half, creating a perfect base for our salad. Finally, add a sprinkle of fresh herbs, such as dill or parsley, for a fresh and aromatic taste. Enjoy your meal!
